This Nelson Brecciated Argillite Toki showcases a distinctive and less commonly found variety of argillite from the Nelson region of New Zealand. The stone features beautiful natural contrasts between deep charcoal-grey tones and lighter mineral veining, forming patterns that resemble abstract landscapes. Because of the way the stone forms, every piece carries its own completely unique markings.

The term brecciated describes a natural geological process where fragments of rock have fractured and later been cemented back together by minerals over time. This process creates the striking broken patterns and flowing veins visible within the stone, giving brecciated argillite its dramatic appearance and making it especially sought after.

Carved in the toki form, inspired by the traditional adze, the pendant carries strong, clean lines that symbolize strength, resilience, and determination. This piece also features a subtle scooped curve along the bottom edge, adding a gentle contour that softens the form while giving the design a little extra character.

Finished with a traditional hand-tied black cord binding, the pendant allows the natural beauty of the stone to remain the focus. With brecciated Nelson argillite becoming harder to source, pieces like this are increasingly rare and truly one of a kind.
